Snow Blowers & Thrower
Defects and Safety Issues |
|
| The Consumer Product Safety
Commission estimates that each year on average
there are approximately 5,740 hospital emergency
room-related injuries associated with snow blowers
and throwers. |
| In a recent year
there were about 590 finger amputations involving
snow throwers, which have also accounted for
at least 19 deaths since 1992. Injuries most
frequently occur when consumers try to clear
the auger/collector or discharge chute with
their hands. |
| In February 2004,
Ariens Co. voluntarily recalled 571 Ariens
13-Horsepower Sno-Throw machines because the
machines blade reportedly did not always
stop when the blade brake control was applied,
resulting in continued blade movement and the
potential for serious injury if users made
contact with the blade. |

| The law in most states provides individuals with legal
claims and the right to compensation for injuries they suffer as a result
of a defective product or the negligence of another. The injured person
may file a lawsuit seeking compensation for his or her pain and suffering,
