Boston Scientific NexStent Recall: Heart Stent Recall

On August 14, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Boston Scientific, a leading manufacturer of heart stents, has recalled its NexStent Carotid Stent and Monorail Delivery System, distributed from June 19, 2007, through May 5, 2008.

The device was used in patients to treat a blockage in carotid artery disease. The product was recalled because the tip of the heart stent delivery system may detach during implant surgery. This could cause injuries to the artery, strokes and emergency surgery to remove the detached tip.

The recall does not affect Boston Scientific stents already implanted, as the problem arises during the surgical procedure and not with the stent itself if surgery has been successful.

Earlier Boston Scientific Heart Device Recall

In 2004, Boston Scientific announced a recall of 96,000 heart stents after reports of patients deaths and injuries during implantation surgeries. The recall included 85,000 Taxus stents, a drug-coated stent, and 11,000 bare-metal stents.

Lieff Cabraser has successfully represented persons across America injured by faulty medical devices including heart stents.

Legal Rights of the Injured

The law in most states provides individuals with legal claims and the right to compensation for injuries they suffer as a result of a defective product or the negligence of another. The injured person may file a lawsuit seeking compensation for his or her pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost past and future wages and punitive damages.
