| The Food and Drug Administration
approves Ortho Evra, a 1-inch square patch
that slowly releases estrogen and progesterone
when applied to the body. |
| Ortho Evra, developed
by the Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical
Research & Development, L.L.C. and marketed
by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., is introduced
as the first birth control patch approved by
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. |
| The AP publishes an
article stating that the risk of dying or suffering
a survivable blood clot while using the Ortho
Evra patch is about three times higher than
while using birth control pills. The article
reports that about a dozen women, most in their
late teens and early 20s, died in 2004 from
blood clots believed to be related to the birth-control
patch Ortho Evra. |
| The Food and Drug Administration
warns users of the Ortho Evra birth control
patch that they are being exposed to more hormones,
and are therefore at higher risk of blood clots
and other serious side effects, than previously
disclosed. A strongly worded warning is
added to the patch label that says women using
the patch will be exposed to about 60 percent
more estrogen than those using typical birth
control pills. |
| If you or a family member have suffered a serious injury or a loved one died after being prescribed the Ortho Evra Patch, you may be eligible to file a claim. Lieff Cabraser is representing women across America with Ortho Evra injuries. |
