Viagra, Cialis
and Levitra and Blindness |

diagnosed with severe vision problems (referred
to as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
or NAION). We are also investigating claims of
blindness on behalf of users of Cialis and Levitra. |
| NAION,
described as a "stroke of the eye," occurs
when the flow of oxygenated blood to the optic
nerve is restricted, which injures the optic nerve
and results in permanent vision loss. |
| Medical
researchers have found that sildenafil (sold
under the brand name Viagra) can result in
vision loss within 24 hours after ingestion,
most commonly upon awakening the next morning.
In some cases, the visual impairment has been
progressive over days or weeks, eventually
becoming disabling. |
| Some
patients affected had been using Viagra for
months or years; other individuals had only
recently been prescribed Viagra and had used
only one or a few doses before acute visual
loss developed. |
| Patients who have
suffered serious side effects due to the use
of Viagra have filed lawsuits against its manufacturer,
Pfizer, Inc. The lawsuits have alleged that
Pfizer failed to warn patients of the risk
of the side effect NAION. Plaintiffs charge
that Pfizer was aware of the substantial risks
that users could become blind from using Viagra
but failed to disclose these risks to patients. |
