NBC News, "Redux Possibly Pulled Off the Market Too Late"

          NBC's Robert Hager reporting: When Linda Moreno, mother of three, took fen-phen to diet, she never dreamed what could happen.
          Ms. LINDA MORENO: It is horrible, you know. I feel like my life is ruined, and I feel like this--I paid a very high price to lose weight, you know -- my life.
          HAGER: Today, Moreno suffers from deadly lung damage, has sued and won settlement with doctors and drug makers, and depends on these medicines to stay alive. Lung damage is a rare side effect of the fenfluromine in fen-phen, one some at the FDA had warned of but managers said it was infrequent and went on to approve an even purer form of the drug called Redux. Wildly popular, the drugs were taken by millions. But today they're gone. One of seven major drugs the FDA or drug makers have had to withdraw recently because of suspected side effects and reports of more than a thousand deaths.
