          A Milwaukee County jury absolved a Lake Geneva doctor who was sued for prescribing the diet drug mixture fen-phen to a woman who later required surgery to replace two heart valves. After deliberating Friday afternoon and Monday morning, jurors rejected a negligence claim against Gregory Gerber and awarded nothing to Barbara Jeffries, a school principal in East Troy.
          According to court testimony last week, Gerber prescribed fen-phen to Jeffries in spring 1996 to help her lose weight. At the time, the combination of fenfluramine and phentermine was being hailed as a wonder drug to treat obesity, with more than 6 million patients across the country using fen-phen to drop pounds. Roughly 100,000 people in Wisconsin took the diet drug combination.attorney.
