Popeye ate it all the time, but now millions of bags of spinach are being pulled off supermarket shelves, including right here in the Coastal Empire. This, after an outbreak of E. coli was linked to the vegetable. Grocery stores started pulling the bags off the shelves Friday morning. Federal officials have not been able to pinpoint the exact source of the E. coli outbreak, but believe the culprit is sold in sealed plastic packs. The deadly E. coli outbreak has sickened dozens of people in several states, and caused at least one death. E. coli is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration.
