SeattlePI.com, "Implantable Shelhigh medical devices seized after violations found"

          Shelhigh Inc., a closely held maker of implantable medical devices, began having all of its products seized after U.S. regulators found manufacturing violations that may have contaminated some products.
          The Food and Drug Administration and U.S. marshals starting seizing the devices, made out of pig and cow tissues, Tuesday from Shelhigh's main manufacturing facility in Union, N.J., FDA spokeswoman Heidi Rebello said in a telephone interview today. The devices include surgical patches, heart valves and arterial grafts used in many surgical settings.
          Shelhigh was cited by FDA inspectors last year for making devices in poorly maintained facilities and not properly testing for sterility and fever-causing contaminants, the agency said. The agency previously issued two warning letters to the company. Bob Koshinskie, an employee who answered the phone at Shelhigh, said company officials weren't available to comment.
