The Money Times, "AMO’s defective Contact lens solution may even cause blindness"

          An investigation conducted by health experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed the presence of harmful bacteria in the Advanced Medical Optics’ (AMO) contact lens solution that can lead to eye infections and even blindness. California based AMO’s Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose contact lens solution, designed to clean and store soft contact lenses like any other solution, is apparently causing a rare painful eye infection called Acanthamoeba keratitis that can even lead to grave consequences like permanent vision loss or blindness, according to experts.
          The government officials and CDC experts including Michael Beach, team leader in the CDC's division of parasitic diseases, investigated similar cases in around 35 states which were reported to the Illinois State Health Department and were later delegated to the CDC. They have issued a warning about the side effects of the solution and are suggesting people to throw away the solution and even the lenses with the cases.According to Beach, out of the 46 cases examined, 36 wore soft contact lenses, 21 recently started using the AMO’s solution which caused them the eye infection within 1 month of the usage and 14 used it exclusively which served as a major link between the disease and the quality of the solution.
         The symptoms of the infection are eye pain, eye redness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, sensation of something in the eye and excessive tearing or other eye symptoms. The infection is hard to diagnose and its treatment may be difficult as its medicines are not easily available. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with health advisor's from the CDC are investigating 138 confirmed affected cases and trying to comprehend the reason for such infection, the solution itself or its usage.
