The Times (Shreveport), "Lake Charles Teen Dies in Yamaha Rhino ATV Accident"

         A 13-year-old Lake Charles girl died Sunday night in a Shreveport hospital following an ATV accident in south Sabine Parish, Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers said. Whitney Bland died at 10:50 p.m. at LSU Hospital in Shreveport from abdominal trauma caused by injuries sus-tained in the rollover accident, Rivers said.
         Bland, who was with family in the Little Flock community, was accompanied by two friends on a Yamaha Rhino 4x4 as they traveled down a gravel dirt road. The ATV ran over a bump on the right, which caused Bland to take a hard left turn. The off-road vehicle zoomed across the road and overturned in the ditch, according to information Rivers has ob-tained in the accident investigation.
         Bland was pinned underneath the steering wheel. She and her two companions were transported to Sabine Medical Center in Many. Life Air flew Bland to Shreveport, while her two friends were treated and released, Rivers said.
"It's a sad thing to happen on this Memorial Day weekend," he said.
