          Consumers should not eat certain brands of ground beef sold at a variety of chain grocery stores in April because the meat could contain a dangerous form of E. coli, state health officials warned Thursday. The recalled brands are Moran's All Natural, Miller Meat Company, Stater Brothers Markets, Inter-American Products or Basha's ground beef with a sell-by or freeze-by date of April 29 or April 30 or a produced-on date of April 30.
          The affected products were sold at Albertsons, Basha's, Grocery Outlet, Fry's, "R" Ranch Markets, Sam's Club, Save-A-Lot, Save-Mart, Scolari's Wholesale Markets, Smart and Final, Smith's, Stater Bros., and Superior Warehouse. The recalled products were packaged in 1-pound, 3-pound, 5-pound and 10-pound units. The note "EST. 1241" appears inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture mark of inspection or printed on the package.
          The recall affects 11 states, including California. Three people have been confirmed to have fallen ill from the tainted meat in California. No deaths have been reported. Leftover ground beef taken from homes of two ill consumers in California and Colorado and tested in state laboratories was found to contain E. coli O157:H7, which often causes abdominal cramps and diarrhea. People with thesesymptoms should call their doctor. Ground beef cooked to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees will kill harmful bacteria and is safe to eat, but federal and state health officials warned consumers against attempting to cook this recalled meat.
